Sèlene at the Light + Building Frankfurt 2018
Selène an innovative company rich in tradition
The name Selene, in Greek, is the personification of the full Moon, whose etymon means “the shining”: this light, that has intrigued humanity for thousands of years, became the symbol of the company’s mission, initiated during the Sixties in the province of Venice which has been the foremost producer of home lighting for centuries.
Selene has in fact embraced the value of this artistic legacy: its main lighting products use the original Murano blown glass. Every object, obtained with the glassmakers’ artisanal technique, is unique, as shown by the subtle changes that sometimes the glass shade presents compared to the original line of the mold.
The special chemical composition of the Murano glass retards the solidification process and allows a longer and more accurate manufacture, non-reproducible with the industry standards. This is why the Selenes’ products are real piece of design furnishings, embellished with an accurate and fine workmanship of the wood or metal frame. In more than 43 years of business, Selène has seen both its domestic and international markets expand considerably; its adroit blend of glass-making tradition and its shrewd attention to the design developments has enabled the firm to create first-class, modern lighting collections.
